The Cold Steel Dragonfly Katana is the most impressive looking sword for the money that you will find.
The green ray-skin wrapped handle gives the sword a unique appearance, but is still traditional enough to be authentic.
I got a great deal on my Dragonfly Katana and here are my thoughts:
First Impressions:
1. The blade comes out of the box with a coat of Vaseline on it. This is done so that your sword doesn’t rust. Cold Steel makes the Dragonfly Katana blade out of 1055 carbon steel.
This steel is hard enough to hold a great edge, but flexible enough to withstand the toughest torture tests that you can imagine.
2. My Katana was hair shaving sharp right out of the box. This is a big plus because many sword manufacturers provide somewhat dull blades.
3. Cold Steel doesn’t stamp their name anywhere that is normally visible.
Instead, their stamp goes on the swords tang that is covered by the handle.
4. The Cold Steel Dragonfly Katana has a mirror finish on the blood groove or “fuller”. This is the portion directly beneath the spine that is slightly indented.
This feature gives your sword an amazing appearance that is truly unforgettable.
Overall:
The Cold Steel Dragonfly Katana is well worth every penny of the asking price. It is made traditionally with only the highest quality materials.
The blade is 29.5 inches, so if you are looking for something equally as nice but a little smaller then you should check out the Dragonfly Wakazashi or Dragonfly O Tanto.
