Gold, farm gear? What were the typical “spoils” of the war that the Crusaders brought home when returning from battle?
Gold was too heavy to transport safely and quickly.They would have loaded up on more portable items that they could get gold for when they got home,ie: spices,especially pepper,ginger,cloves,cinnamon -some of these were considered more valuable than gold!Some posit that the crusaders were also partly responsible for bringing persian cats to europe.Think about it,if you had to keep rats out of your food and from biting your children and livestock,wouldn’t a cat seem like a life saver?
